COPPERFIELD CLOG 2010
Copperfield Clog's AGM was held on Thursday, 14 January 2010 at 8pm in St John's Church Hall, Hermitage Road, Higham.
COPPERFIELD CLOG 2009
Copperfield Clog met on Thursday, 10 September for a Planning Meeting at The Gardeners Arms before resuming full rehearsals on Thursday, 17 September.
Copperfield Clog has completed its pre-summer dancing programme for 2009 and events/venues danced at this season include the following:
* Boughton Monchelsea's Dance n' Picnic on the Green at West Peckham on Sunday, 19 July. Copperfield Clog thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon of dance and thank Boughton Monchelsea for organising such an event. The setting and company was perfect for a tranditional English country afternoon - the only thing that could be improved was the weather!!! Just as we were about to dance there was a heavy shower of rain. However, this did not dampen our spirits and we all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. [Photographs here -- YouTube video here]
* Copperfield Clog performed at the Kent Life Museum, Cobtree Farm, Aylesford [Photographs here] on Saturday 20 June 2009. This was the Museum's Transport Festival and also on this day to add to the interest a wedding was being held at the Church at the Museum - all most exciting.
* Copperfield Clog has performed at several pubs in the county between April and July. These include the Amazon and Tiger on Thursday, 2 July where we were joined by St Clement Clogs [Photographs here]; the Green Man at Hodsoll Street on Thursday, 25 June where we were joined by Boughton Monchelsea Morris [Photographs here]; The Horseshoe and Castle on Thursday, 11 June [Photographs here]; The Anchor, Faversham, on Tuesday, 2 June where Copperfield Clog were the guests of Offcumduns and Wansum Morris [Photographs here]; The Anchor and Hope, Ash on Monday, 18 May where Copperfield Clog were the guests of Invicta Morris [Photographs here]; The George, Trosley, on Thursday, 14 May where Copperfield Clog were joined by Maenads; The See Ho, Shorne, on Monday, 11 May where Copperfield Clog were the guests of Frog Island (and what a jolly cold night this was - even the patio heaters were not enough to keep us warm!!!).
* Copperfield Clog danced on Saturday 2nd May at the Rochester Sweeps Festival. [Photographs here] What a lot of people came on Saturday!! It seemed very, very busy with some pushing into our dance space when performing. Occasionally, the great British Public actually walked across our set and musicians!!
* To celebrate St George's Day Copperfield Clog performed at the The George, Trosley on Thursday, 23 April. For this occasion we were joined by Kent Korkers and Porky Scratchins.
* Copperfield Clog's dance season kicked off this year when we danced at the Museum of Kent Life, Cobtree, Aylesford, on Sunday, 5 April. This event was to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Museum of Kent Life's 2009 season.
COPPERFIELD CLOG IN 2008
Copperfield Clog commenced their 2008 season at the Kings Arms, Upnor on St Georges Day 2008. As this was our first stand of the season, we took things easy and enjoyed the performance. Despite it being a tight space on which to dance, this in many ways helped our rehearsal. This was closely followed by the Rochester Sweeps Festival on Saturday, 3 May [ Photographs here ] and although we were slightly down on numbers, we still managed to perform lots of dancing.
Copperfield Clog also supported the Eleanor Foundation event in Lower Higham on Sunday 22 June [ Photographs here ]. It was a lovely sunny day - albeit very blustery and windy, too windy to wear our hats! - and there was a good turn out at the event.
During 2008 Copperfield Clog performed at various pubs including The Robin Hood, Blue Bell Hill [ Photographs here ] where we were joined by Kits Coty's; The Green Man, Hodsoll Street, Meopham [ Photographs here ] along with Kent Korkers and Porky Scratchins', Maenads, Plain Capers and St Clements; The Cock Inn, Luddesdown [ Photographs here ] along with Boughton Monchelsea; the Amazon & Tiger, Harvel [ Photographs here ] and The Good Intent, Rochester [ Photographs here ] where Copperfield Clog were the guests of St Clements Clogs.
A memorable evening was at the Three Daws, Town Pier, Gravesend on Monday 30 June [ Photographs here ] where we were the guests of Frog Island Morris. This turned out to be a very interesting evening as dancers and musicians all enjoyed watching the ships go down the river at the same time as performing!! In fact, due to the high standard of dancing, a modern tug on the river tried to copy us, we think. Some spectators were distracted by the antics of the tug "Switzer Trimley" as it manoeuvred violently, twisted and turned right by the Town Pier restaurant!
COPPERFIELD CLOG IN 2007
During 2007 Copperfield Clog performed at the RSPB Wildlife & Country Fair, Cooling on Sunday, 2 September [ Photographs here ] and at the Robin Hood, Blue Bell Hill; Kings Arms, Upper Upnor [ Photographs here ]; the Chequers, Old Loose Hill [ Photographs here ]; The Green Man, Hodsoll Street, Meopham [ Photographs here ]; The Ivy Leaf, Dartford [ Photographs here ]; and the Rochester Sweeps Festival [ Photographs here ].
COPPERFIELD CLOG IN 2006
2006 was a very busy year for Copperfield Clog and some of our events included the October Apple Festival, Cobtree Museum of Rural Life, Aylesford [ Photographs here ]; the RSPB Country & Wildlife Fair, Cooling [ Photographs here ]; the Kent County Show, Detling [ Photographs here ] and the Rochester Sweeps Festival [ Photographs here ] Other venues included the Amazon and Tiger, Harvel [ Photographs here ], along with Invicta Morris, Frog Island and Rabble Morris; the Fleur de Lys at Burham [ Photographs here ]; The Stone Horse, Higham [ Photographs here ]; The George, Trottiscliffe [ Photographs here ]; North Pole, Wateringbury [ Photographs here ]; Red Bull, Eccles [ Photographs here ]; Royal Oak, Ash [ Photographs here ]; Padwell Arms, near Seal [ Photographs here ] and Robin Hood, Blue Bell Hill [ Photographs here ]
COPPERFIELD CLOG IN 2005
The 2005 spring/summer season seemed to go very quickly. However, Copperfield Clog enjoyed an excellent start to the season when they attended the Hastings Jack in the Green Festival from 30 April to 2 May 2005. Rather than travel down each day we thought it would be a good idea to have a 'bonding' weekend and start our season with a bang! Therefore, the majority of the side stayed in two log cabins near Battle - and I am happy to report that a jolly good time was had by all! This was the first time Copperfield Clog had attended the Hastings festival and it proved to be an excellent weekend.
During 2005 Copperfield Clog were also to be found at the Amazon & Tiger, Harvel with Kettle Bridge Clogs; the Black Lion, Southfleet; The Robin Hood, Blue Bell Hill with Motley Morris and Loose Women; The Stone Horse, Higham/Wainscott with St Clement Clogs; The Gardeners Arms, Higham (who kindly sponsored our programme this year) with Bishop Gundulf Morris; The Three Mariners, Lower Rainham; The George, Trottiscliffe with Kent Korkers and Pork Scratchins; The Kings Arms, Offham with Boughton Monchelsea; The Fenn Bell, St Mary's Hoo with Kits Coty Morris; Bush Blackbird & Thrush at East Peckham with Royal Borough Ladies Morris from Tunbridge Wells and, finally, The Tudor Rose, Upper Upnor with our guests Invicta Ladies Morris.
A very brief look back at COPPERFIELD CLOG in 2003 and 2004
Some of the events enjoyed by Copperfield Clog during 2003 and 2004 included dancing with Fleet Morris and Invicta Ladies Morris at the 'At Home' hosted by Greenwich Morris Men ( Photographs here ) on Sunday, 11 July 2004 at The Fighting Cocks, Horton Kirby.
On Thursday 24 June Copperfield Clog , along with Frog Island Morris, were at The Gardeners Arms, Higham ( Photos here, if you dare to look ). Do you remember this date? Some clues.Euro 2004 quarter final.David Beckham missing from the Spot. And Copperfield Clog and Frog Island Morris got wet!! When we arrived at the Gardeners the front bar was packed with supporters watching England against Portugal in the quarter final. Needless to say, it was a little bit hard for us to get motivated and go and dance outside but both sides did manage three dances before intermittent showers forced us inside the pub.
Copperfield Clog enjoyed dancing at Upnor Castle on Sunday 23 May where we were invited by Medway Council and Upnor Castle officials to provide entertainment at this historic site. Copperfield Clog also enjoyed dancing at Cobtree Museum of Kent Rural Life for the Museums' May Day festivities (see the Photo Gallery page) and the Rochester Sweeps Festival , where were all gathered by 5.15am (.yawn.) on Saturday, 1 May ready to dance in the dawn on Blue Bell Hill near Chatham and Maidstone (photos are on our Photo Gallery page).
Back in June 2003 Copperfield Clog had a brilliant weekend at the very well organised Moreton Midsummer Festival , where we took part in the festival's North West Clog Challenge 2003 competition - and we came away with the winners Festival Challenge Cup 2003 . Although many teams had booked to take part in the competition, only three teams ended up competing - and all three teams were of an extremely high standard. We performed two dances: 'Golborne' and 'Basque'. Our thanks must go to Black Bull Clog and the residents of Moreton for organising such a brilliant Midsummer Festival weekend.
